A city in China's Sichuan Province has ordered that cryptocurrency miners be shut down for inspection.

Ya'an, one of the most important crypto mining centres in China's Sichuan province, is planning to shut down operations, according to three separate local media reports. The length of time that the mines will be shuttered is unknown.

"An anonymous source has been reported by the Chinese crypto-media outlet PANews, officials from related authorities, including the City's energy office and technology office. They decided to break up crypto mining operations. The conference took place locally on Thursday, according to the report.

Local miners have been given notice to shut down their operations at 22:00 local time (14:00 UTC Thursday, or 10:00 a.m. ET) for self-inspection. It's unknown when the miners will be able to restart their equipment, but according to the article, another meeting is scheduled for Friday.

BlockBeats, another local news outlet, stated that all mining sites, including hydroelectric consumption parks, must be closed by June 25. According to BlockBeats, which cited unnamed miners, some of the parks have received the notice and are expecting another official document on Friday.

Mining activities in several sections of Sichuan province have been paused for inspection, according to a third claim by Chinese crypto blogger Colin Wu.

It's unclear whether the city's crackdown on crypto mining will spread to the rest of Sichuan province. During China's rainy season, Chinese crypto miners can take advantage of inexpensive electricity in Ya'an, one of the province's hydro-rich locations.

The decision comes after a weekend crackdown on another hydro-based mining centre, Yunnan province, in China. Mining operations have also been ordered to cease in Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Qinghai.

The Ya'an Municipal People's Government did not respond to requests for comment. An official from the National Energy Administration's Sichuan Energy Regulatory Office was unable to confirm the crackdown notice, stating that the people who might be aware of the notice were not immediately available.
