Biden Announces New Vaccine Goal: 200 Million Shots in 100 Days.
"I know it's ambitious – twice our original goal – but no other country in the world has even come close, not even close, to what we're doing," Biden said from the White House during his first press conference.
The announcement comes after Biden hit his goal of 100 million vaccinations in his first 100 days in office on Day 58. At the current pace of the vaccine rollout, which is averaging about 2.5 million doses per day, Biden would be set to slightly exceed his new goal.
About 14% of the total U.S. population has been fully vaccinated, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Over 130 million vaccine doses have been administered.
Biden has also pledged that there will be enough vaccine supply for every adult in the U.S. by the end of May. He had previously said it would be July before the U.S. would have enough doses produced for 300 million Americans before moving up the timeline. He has also urged states to open up vaccinations to all adults by May 1.
