TikTok surpasses 1 billion monthly active users around the world.

TikTok is now used by over one billion individuals all over the world , according to a statement released by the app on Monday.

TikTok, a popular video streaming and social media platform created in 2016, is a popular video streaming and social media platform. The TikTok smartphone app entertains users with music, humour, dance, and more, and the "For You" feed is generated by algorithms that learn what you like.

Bytedance, TikTok's current parent company, released the app, which is known in China as Douyin, in 2016. Bytedance stated in 2017 that it would purchase Musical.ly, another video app. ByteDance merged Musical.ly with TikTok the next year, launching TikTok as an international brand.

TikTok's growth has been exponential since then, with the app growing from 55 million global users in January 2018 to 689 million by July 2020, according to Reuters.

As of June 2021, the company had 2.9 billion monthly active users around the world, according to Facebook's second quarter financial reports.

TikTok has generated a slew of competitors, including Instagram Reels. Google created YouTube Shorts, its own version of short-form videos, earlier this year.

President Trump vowed to ban TikTok unless it switched control to a U.S. corporation last year, citing security concerns. As a result, TikTok opted to collaborate with Oracle and Walmart, selling its business in the United States to the two corporations.

However, a judge has ordered that the restriction be postponed, and the sale has been postponed until the Biden administration overturns Trump's ban and reevaluates the national security risk TikTok may pose.
