Xiaomi in Portugal starts accepting bitcoin, ethereum and other Cryptocurrenceis.

Xiaomi has stepped in to fill the void left by Amazon's recent denial of rumours that it would accept cryptocurrencies.

Mi Store Portugal, the Chinese tech behemoth's official retailer, has recently decided to accept bitcoin payments.

Xiaomi smartphones, vacuum cleaners, smartwatches, electric scooters, and other devices may now be purchased using Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and Dash.

Xiaomi has partnered with Utrust, a Swiss cryptocurrency payment service provider whose native token is also accepted by Mi Store Portugal, to enable support for digital assets.

Xiaomi, which recently surpassed Apple in the smartphone market, is attempting to live up to its promise of “innovation for everyone,” according to Pedro Maia, head of marketing at Mi Store Portugal:

“We are a technologically advanced, innovative, and revolutionary brand. That is why we strive to be one step ahead of the competition. We aim to give all true technology aficionados the opportunity to purchase their favourite products with what is now known as "the most technological money."

It's unsurprising that Xiaomi has picked Portugal as a testbed for digital asset payments, given that Portugal is regarded the most crypto-friendly European country because to its tax rules.

Samsung, the world's largest smartphone maker, unveiled a blockchain wallet in early 2019, but cryptocurrency has yet to be adopted by its retail stores.
